Our cattle are grass fed, grain finished, allowing them to grow naturally on pasture before being finished on a carefully balanced grain ration. This approach produces the exceptional flavour, tenderness, and marbling our customers have come to expect while maintaining the high standards of care we believe every animal deserves.

We believe that great products begin long before harvest. Healthy soil grows healthy forage. Healthy forage raises healthy cattle. That's why we invest in regenerative grazing practices, responsible land management, and sustainable farming methods that help care for our pastures today while protecting them for future generations.

Our Home

McDermotts Ranch is located just south of High Prairie, Alberta, in a region affectionately known by locals as the Banana Belt. Thanks to its unique geography, this area is known for enjoying some of the warmest weather patterns in northern Alberta, creating an ideal environment for raising healthy cattle and producing quality forage.

That special corner of Alberta is the inspiration behind our slogan, "Beef from the Belt." It's more than a tagline—it's a tribute to the place we call home and the land that has supported generations of ranching families.

How We Raise Our Cattle

At McDermotts Ranch, raising exceptional beef begins with raising healthy, well-cared-for cattle. Every decision we make is guided by a commitment to animal welfare, responsible stewardship of the land, and producing beef we're proud to serve our own family.

Our cattle spend their lives grazing Alberta pastures, where they have access to fresh water, quality forage, and the space to express their natural behaviors. As they mature, they are grass fed, grain finished, providing the flavour, tenderness, and marbling that Alberta beef is celebrated for.

We believe healthy land produces healthy cattle. That's why we continually invest in responsible grazing practices that help protect our pastures, improve soil health, and support the long-term sustainability of our ranch. Caring for the land today helps ensure it remains productive for future generations.

Every animal is raised with patience, respect, and hands-on care by our family. From calving season through finishing, we take pride in knowing our cattle and providing the attention they deserve every step of the way.

When it's time for processing, our cattle are transported to a licensed, provincially inspected processing facility, where they are professionally processed to meet Alberta's food safety standards.

More Than Beef

While premium Alberta beef remains at the heart of our ranch, we've also found ways to honour every part of the animal through our handcrafted tallow soap collection.

Made with tallow rendered from our own inspected beef, each bar is hand-poured in small batches using quality ingredients. It's another way we bring the values of craftsmanship, sustainability, and quality from our ranch into your home.
